About PhotoMetrics

What does "photometrics" mean? +

We chose the name PhotoMetrics because our app extracts metrics from photos - it's a playful combination that describes exactly what the app does.

However, you may have encountered the word "photometry" or "photometrics" in other contexts:

  • Scientific photometry - In physics and astronomy, photometry is the science of measuring visible light intensity. Astronomers use photometry to measure the brightness of stars, planets, and other celestial objects.
  • Photography lighting - Photometric data is used to describe the light output of lamps and fixtures, helping photographers and cinematographers plan their lighting setups.
  • Computer vision - Photometric stereo is a technique that uses multiple images with different lighting to reconstruct 3D surface geometry.

Our PhotoMetrics app is different - we use AI to read and extract data values from photos of displays, meters, receipts, and more. Think of it as "photo + metrics" rather than the scientific measurement of light.

Getting Started

How do I create my first tracker? +

Creating a tracker is easy:

  • Tap the + button on the Trackers screen
  • Take a photo of something you want to track (e.g., a blood pressure monitor)
  • Wait a few seconds for AI to analyze your photo
  • Review the suggested metrics and customize if needed
  • Tap Create Tracker

Your first photo becomes the basis for the tracker, and you can start adding more photos right away.

What types of things can I track? +

PhotoMetrics can extract data from any photo that contains numbers or text. Common use cases include:

  • Health: Blood pressure monitors, weight scales, glucose meters
  • Finance: Receipts, bills, invoices
  • Fitness: Gym equipment displays, running watches
  • Home: Electric meters, water meters, thermostats
  • Screenshots: Mobile screenshots from other apps (LinkedIn Jobs, Apple Health, etc.)
  • And more: Anything with visible data you want to track over time
How accurate is the AI data extraction? +

Our AI is highly accurate for clear, well-lit photos. However:

  • Results depend on photo quality - better lighting = better results
  • You can always edit any value the AI got wrong
  • Crop photos to focus on the relevant data for best results
  • For important data (especially health-related), always verify against the original
How do I set up reminders? +

Smart reminders are available with the Paid tier. To set up a reminder:

  • Open the tracker you want to set a reminder for
  • Tap the bell icon in the top bar
  • Choose your preferred time and frequency (daily, weekdays, weekends, weekly, or custom days)
  • Tap Save

You'll receive a push notification at your chosen time reminding you to take a photo. Make sure notifications are enabled for PhotoMetrics in your device settings.

Troubleshooting

My photo isn't processing - what should I do? +

If your photo seems stuck processing:

  • Check your internet connection - Photo processing requires connectivity
  • Wait a moment - Processing typically takes 5-15 seconds
  • Check for a push notification - You'll be notified when processing completes
  • Pull to refresh - The photo list will update with new data
  • Try uploading again - If it's been more than a minute, try a new photo
The AI extracted wrong values - how do I fix them? +

You can easily edit any metric value:

  • Open the tracker and tap on the photo
  • You'll see the list of extracted metrics
  • Tap on any value to edit it
  • Changes save automatically

For future photos, try taking clearer pictures with good lighting and the display in focus.

My charts aren't showing any data +

Charts require at least 4 photos with extracted data. If your charts are empty:

  • Check photo count - You need at least 2 processed photos
  • Verify metrics were extracted - Open a photo to confirm values exist
  • Try different time source - Switch between "Upload Date" and "Photo Taken Date"
  • Check date range - Screenshots may not have "Photo Taken Date" metadata
I'm not receiving push notifications +

To fix notification issues:

  • Go to iOS Settings > PhotoMetrics > Notifications
  • Make sure notifications are enabled
  • Check that "Allow Notifications" is turned on
  • Try logging out and back in to re-register for notifications

What are metric thresholds? +

Metric thresholds let you define acceptable ranges for your tracked values. This is a paid tier feature.

For each numeric metric, you can set:

  • Minimum threshold - values below this are flagged
  • Maximum threshold - values above this are flagged
  • Alerts - get push notifications when values breach thresholds

Values outside your thresholds are highlighted in the app with warning indicators. Threshold lines also appear on your charts for easy visual reference.

This is useful for health metrics (blood pressure, weight), budget limits, or any value you need to monitor closely.
